Mutual Understanding
The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs is responsible for the various religious communities in Oman, and the various religious congregations are provided with the facilities necessary to practice their faith.
Christian churches of various denominations are found in Muscat and Salalah, with temples for Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists as well, and “worship rooms” in many different regions of Oman.
Missionary activities are forbidden to all religious communities.
Oman works to promote a true understanding of Islam, which is a moderate religion, to help counter the bigotry that has led to the spread of a stereotypical and erroneous view of Islam and Muslims.
In doing so, it seeks to encourage greater intellectual and cultural interaction between peoples, and to highlight the country’s practical experience of mutual coexistence and tolerance and a belief in the need to build bridges of understanding, tolerance and friendship between peoples.
