John C. Wilkinson
John C. Wilkinson, D.Litt., is a former Reader at Oxford University and an Emeritus Fellow of St. Hugh’s College, Oxford, where he taught from 1969 until his retirement in 1997.
He worked several years with international oil companies in the Middle East before returning to Oxford to write his doctoral thesis on the Ibadhi Imamate of Oman.
He is author of numerous articles and several books, notably: Water and Tribal Settlement in South-East Arabia (Clarendon Press, 1977), The Imamate Tradition of Oman (Cambridge University Press, 1987), Arabia's Frontiers (I.B. Tauris, 1991) and Ibâdism: Origins and early development in Oman, Oxford University Press, 2010.
Valerie Hoffman
Valerie Hoffman is Director of the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Illinois.
She is a specialist in Islamic thought and practice and has worked on many aspects of Islam, from the time of the Prophet to the contemporary period; she conducted textual studies and has done fieldwork. The academic year 2000-2001 she spent in Oman and the Hadramawt, and became particularly interested in the Ibadhi school of thought of Islam.

Angeliki Ziaka
Dr. Angeliki Ziaka is a History of Religions lecturer of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a Doctor of the Marc Bloch University of Strasbourg.
She specializes in the study of Islam and the Arabic/Islamic civilization and in the topic of interreligious dialogue, which she extensively researched at Strasbourg University, the Pontifical Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI, Roma), and the University of Amman (Jordan). Her research interests focus on Muslim theology and history as well as the social, religious, and political dimensions of Islam in the Middle East.
She edited the book On Ibadism, Olms Verlag Georg Olms Verlag Hildesheim – Zurich – New York, 2014 which presents the proceedings of the first international conference dedicated to Ibadism and the Sultanate of Oman, held at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in November 2009.
Heinz Gaube
Heinz Gaube is Professor Emeritus of the University Tuebingen in Germany, where he was teaching Iranian Studies. After his retirement he concentrated on the development and spread of Ibadhism in the region of the Indian Ocean.
In his book The Ibadis in the Region of the Indian Ocean he presents for the first time a comprehensive survey of the archaeological evidence of the Islamic period in the coastal areas of Kenya and Tanzania, as well as relevant written sources in African, oriental and western languages and provides a synthesis of the different sets of sources.
Ersilia Francesca
Ersilia Francesca is Associate Professor of the History of the Islamic World at the University "L'Orientale" of Naples. Since 2005, she has been a member of the International Society for the Study of Islamic Law (ISILS – Harvard University).
Among her publications is: Theory and practice of medieval trade in Islam. The contracts of sale and commendation in the right Ibadi, Rome 2002.
In 2014 the book Ibadi Theology. Rereading Sources and Scholarly Works, which she edited, will be published. The aim of this volume is to explore different issues of Ibadhi theology from the early beginnings until the present day.
